Research Comments:The All-Music Guide says this was a “live” session. Tom Lord shows it at Pep’s in Philadelphia. In his liner notes to the CD reissue Live at Pep’s Volume Two, Michael Cuscuna says this was actually a studio date: “‘Listen to the Wind’ and ‘Gee! Sam Gee’ (which is now on the Live at Pep’s CD) were new at the time and recut in the studio the following year with Nock, Black, and bassist Reggie Workman for Lateef’s album 1984.” (See June 26, 1964) Michel Ruppli reports that Impulse files show these tracks were recorded during two separate sessions on this date.
Status Notes:This session is confirmed but missing information (e.g. personnel, song titles, exact date, producer, etc.).
