| Research Comments: | From the notes to 9003: “In addition to the jazz, the audience was treated to a bit of recording education. They saw Dr. Rudy Van Gelder operating swiftly and efficiently to capture the fine sound for the grooves of this album. They got the feel of what it is to set up for balance, and a look at how much equipment goes into the production of an LP.” From the notes to 3188: “In all, it was a concert that ran a shade under three hours (8:10 to 11:40 p.m., for anyone keeping book), and things were swinging along so grandly no one noticed that the intermission was skipped. Dr. Rudy Van Gelder brought his axe – a fabulous array of microphones, tape recorders, and all the in-between materials that keep things the way they happened forever.” This concert was sponsored by Down Beat magazine and MC’d by Jack Lazare. |
