Research Comments: | One of two marathon sessions Davis recorded to fulfill the terms of his contract with Prestige and thus free him to record for Columbia. Of this date Davis wrote, “I remember this session well because it was long, and the playing was great. We did no second takes. We just recorded like we were playing a night club set. That’s the recording session where you can hear Trane saying on the record, ‘Could I have a beer opener?’ and me asking Bob Weinstock, ‘How was that, Bob?’ and ‘Why?’ after Bob pulled my leg telling us we had to do a tune over again.”* (See also October 26, 1956.) * Miles Davis, Miles: The Autobiography, p.203. |
