Research Comments: | Tyner’s debut as a leader. He remembers his relationship with producer Bob Thiele: “He was very relaxed. And we never felt like Bob was an imposition at all. I mean, he would never … If he’d make a suggestion it would be … he just said, ‘You guys go ahead.’ We had a very, very, very good thing. And Bob was responsible for me making my first recording. He came to me, he says, ‘Yeah, you play with the band,’ he says, ‘I think it’s time for you to do your own recording.’ My first recording – Inception. Bob was the one that encouraged me. And it’s funny – I don’t know, for some reason I was very shy about it.” |
