Research Comments: | Chris Albertson remembers lining up the musicians for this date: “You see, I had picked Cliff [Jackson] and J.C. Higginbotham, Buster Bailey, Sidney De Paris and Zutty Singleton to play. But then Lucille wanted Willie the Lion. So I asked Willie, and I said, ‘We have to get a group together.’ And he said, ‘Well, they have to be Sagittarius.’ He and I spent an evening with the Encyclopedia of Jazz. And then after we finally picked the Sagittarius group, he looked at me and he said, ‘By the way, what sign are you?’ So I said, ‘A Libra,’ and I thought, well, there goes my date. He thought about it a minute, he says, ‘That’s alright – I can work with you.’” |
Status Notes: | This session took place on the same date as another Rudy Van Gelder session. |
