Research Comments: | For this, the Uptown label’s first session, co-producer Mark Feldman remembers “the exact reason we went to Rudy’s. I was talking with Hank Jones – we were possibly going to do the session at this studio in New York City – and I asked him about the piano. And he said, ‘Well, the piano’s not very good. In fact, the pianos are not very good in any of the studios. The two best pianos in studios around the New York area are both at Rudy Van Gelder’s. If you really want a good piano sound, that’s where you go.’” |
