Research Comments: | A photo in Metronome magazine’s issue of January 1956 (p. 6) shows this session in progress in the Hackensack living room. The article, “Music USA,” includes the lines: “The photo at the bottom of this column is of a Signal date, led by Gigi Gryce, including Danny Bank and French hornist John Barber [sic] and two others who shall be nameless, although their faces are evident enough in the picture – for the record, though, let’s call them Art Planter on trumpet and Jimmy Detroit on trombone.” |
