Research Comments: | The first recordings by both Ervin and Handy. Richard Wyands was a last-minute replacement for Mingus’ regular pianist, Horace Parlan, who was forced to make an emergency trip out of town the day of the concert. Although reviews of this event list additional titles performed by the group (“Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Jelly Roll Jellies,” “Billie’s Bounce” and “Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting”), according to Michael Cuscuna, tapes of these selections do not exist. |
