Research Comments:Same date as Wes Montgomery Verve session. Steve Kuhn recalls: “I had a scene with Rudy during that Basra date. I mean, I was much younger of course. And he used to wear his white gloves, which he no longer does. But at one point during the Basra session – in those days I was doing more pyrotechnics on the piano in terms of playing inside the instrument, plucking the strings, stuff like that – and I happened to go inside the strings at one point. And he came running out of the control room with the white gloves and his hands in the air, screaming at me. He said, ‘If I knew you were going to do that I would have gotten you another piano. I don’t want you to touch the strings because you have perspiration on your fingertips and you potentially can rust the strings.’ And I mean, he went nuts for a second.”
Status Notes:This session took place on the same date as another Rudy Van Gelder session.
