Research Comments:CD reissue GRD-134 gives the recording date as June 29, 1964, but Michel Ruppli reports that Impulse files show a single date of June 26 for all this material. In his liner notes to the CD issue of Yusef Lateef’s Live at Pep’s Volume Two, Michael Cuscuna writes: “Pep’s Lounge was a very hip Philadelphia club … it’s surprising that there wasn’t more live recording done there. But Lateef’s appearance and an unsuccessful recording six weeks later with Horace Silver’s new quintet for Blue Note, both engineered by Rudy Van Gelder, seem to be the only professional tapings at the club.”
