Research Comments: | Kenny Burrell: “I had this sound in my mind that did not include a piano. I had this sound with tenor and guitar, and the guitar doing a certain kind of chords, and the Latin percussion, with Ray Barretto. And so we went in and we did it. And you know what Alfred Lion said about it? He said that this was his favorite album, of all the albums he ever recorded. And his wife was the one who quoted him, and she said, ‘Well, why?’ And he said, ‘Because every note swung.’ And that’s probably, next to some of the comments from Ellington, that’s probably the highest compliment I think I’ve ever received.” Same date as Jack McDuff Prestige session. |
Status Notes: | This session took place on the same date as another Rudy Van Gelder session. |
