The specific date (October 8th) is not listed in Ruppli’s Savoy discography, but appears in the booklet to the 2000 reissue on Savoy-Atlantic, where a reproduction of the union contract is partially visible. The contract, between Marian McPartland and the Savoy Record Co. Inc., 58 Market Street, Newark, N.J., is for “UNION SCALE” to be paid “WITHIN 14 DAYS.” Time for the session is shown as 9-12 PM. The 1980 Savoy-Arista double album reissue (SJL 2248) contains an additional tune not shown in Ruppli: Duke Ellington’s “Love You Madly.” |
